Hutchinson Invite - Hutchinson, KS

This past weekend we had Marlins attend a meet at the Hutchinson YMCA. Bailey McCardell had time drops in almost every race she swam, with over 30 seconds in 200 Free and a first place swim in 50 Free. Isaac Byers dropped time in every race he swam with 1st place swims in 3 events, 50 Back, 50 Free and 100 IM, with over 3 seconds knocked off of both 50 Back and Free. Nicholas Fedorchuk also had first place swims in his age-group in 100 Fly, 200 IM and 500 Free with nearly 7 seconds dropped in the 500. Matthew Cable dropped time in 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 IM, 100 Breast, 200 Fly and 1650 Free. The 200 fly and 1650 Free were also 1st place swims for Matthew. Casey Pederson also had a 1st place swim in her 200 Fly. And Alana Bucholtz's time drops include 100 IM, Fly and Back, 50 and 100 Free. Her 100 Free was not only a first place swim but with a time of 59.32, a first time under 1 minute. Other first place swims were 50, 200 Free, and 100 Fly. Overall the meet went well with time drops, a high effort level from everyone, and great racing all around.

Northland United Swim Meet - Kansas City, KS

The weekend of November 1 & 2, we had 9 swimmers attend the Northland United swim meet in Kansas City, MO. One outstanding event over the weekend is Nicholas Fedorchuk winning the 15 & over male "Iron Man" award, having won all his events, 200 and 400 IM, 200 and 500 Free, with best times achieved in all those races as well.

Annemarie and Alana Bucholtz both had all top 3 finishes. Alana dropping almost 4 seconds in her 200 IM and a little over 1 second in the 100 Fly.

Joey and Kylie Martin also had some amazing swims. Joey achieved best times in 5 of his 6 races, dropping off exactly 3 seconds in 200 IM. Kylie had 100% best times, with highlights of a nearly 2 second drop in the 200 IM, close to a 4 second drop in the 200 Free, and a 1.2 second drop in the 100 Breaststroke.

Samantha Max had time drop in both 100 and 200 Back. Brooke Mechels achieving a best time in 200 Breast. And rounding out the meet were Austin and Avrey Bullock. With Avrey there as the Marlins only 10 & under swimmer putting a great effort in her two swims: 50 Back and 100 Breast. And Austin Bullock dropping half a second in his 200 IM and all winning 200 IM, 200 Breast and 100 free and a 2nd place finish in the 500 Free.

Everyone swam hard and it was great to see all those drops in time and the amazing races to out touch the other swimmers!!

Monster Splash - Manhattan, KS

This past weekend marked the annual Monster Splash meet hosted by the Marlins. There were a number of swimmers who had substantial time drops in their races and a good majority of the swimmers that dropped time in one or more events. There were a lot of swimmers really racing at the end of their swims to out-touch their competitors!!

Katie Bussmann dropped 1 minute and 25 seconds in her 500 Freestyle along with almost 5 seconds in her 100 Breaststroke and two and a half seconds in her 50 Breaststroke which were both 1st place swims in her age group. Jordan Deloach dropped over twelve and a half seconds in his 500 Freestyle and nine seconds in his 200 Freestyle. Nicholas Fedorchuk had a nearly ten second drop in 200 Backstroke and Mary Harner dropped over twenty seconds in her 200 IM and had a debut swim in the 200 Butterfly. Ilise Kundel probably accumulated the most total drop in times overall with 7 of 8 best times and 36 seconds dropped in the 200 IM, 11 second drop in 200 Free, 50 second drop in 500 Freestyle, almost 6 second drops in both 100 Freestyle and 100 IM. Jeremiah Ungerer was our only Marlin to swim the 1650 Freestyle aka: "The Mile" and with his first time swimming he was able to get second place, using his twenty-six and a half second drop in 500 Freestyle as a prelude to "The Mile" and an amazing swim in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 49.55 seconds and had a substantial lead on his fellow competitors. Overall with our older swimmers in the Gold and Silver groups they had a pretty impressive meet and represented us at our home pool very well.

Our younger swimmers in both the Bronze and Minnows groups swam very well, also. With these swimmers also having quite the time drops and best times. Kelly Wichmann dropping 19 seconds in her 100 Freestyle. Cristina Oropesa dropping nearly 10 seconds in 50 Freestyle as the lead off swimmer in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Sidney Camp with six second drop in 100 Freestyle. And, most of the 8 & Unders in the Minnows group getting all best times with them being able to swim in their very first meet as swimmers and Marlins!!

Thanks - Curtis

About the Manhattan Marlins

The Manhattan Marlins Swim Team was founded almost forty years ago by a group of interested parents.  Their goal to promote swimming as a sport, both as fun and competition, is still in place today.  Our primary emphasis is on positive self image, physical conditioning, and development to each child's fullest potential.

Over the years, the Marlins have grown, developed and produced national qualifiers as well as state high school champions.  Most of all, the team has provided an excellent swimming program to the Manhattan, Kansas area and to each swimmer who has become a member.
